Naive bloggers often turn to Google to get images for their websites. It isn't until they get a threatening email that they realize this constitutes a copyright infringement. Here are several sites where you can legally download high-quality images for free.

Our mission at DollarSprout is to help readers improve their financial lives, and we regularly partner with companies that share that same vision. If a purchase or signup is made through one of our Partners’ links, we may receive compensation for the referral. Learn more here.

When it comes to making your blog or business website look professional, quality photos are a must. While you might have heard the advice to “take your own photos,” many of us don’t have the right equipment, knowledge, or skills needed to capture the image we desire. That’s where websites offering free stock photos come into play.

The term “free, high-quality stock photos” used to be an oxymoron because either you paid for stock photos, or you sacrificed quality in order to spare your wallet.

Fortunately, that’s no longer the case.

Below is a list of legitimate sites for you to get free, high-quality stock photos that are beautiful, high-resolution, and guaranteed to portray your message or brand, perfectly.

The first part of the list is a roundup of websites that provide hundreds of free stock photos with no sign-up or email required. These websites have a huge variety of styled stock photos, landscape stock photos, and everything in between.

The second part of the list is a roundup are free stock photo sites that require a subscription or email sign-up to receive beautiful, styled stock photos delivered straight to your inbox. They’re still free, they just require a little extra work to get started.

Note: Nearly all of the photos listed on these sites fall under the creative commons public domain dedication (or have no licensing restrictions all together). This means you can copy, modify, distribute and perform the work, even for commercial purposes, all without asking permission. That said, some photos may still require attribution, so be sure to double-check and ensure you’re using the photographs correctly.

Hey Meredith!

You are right, beautiful high-quality photos help your website look more professional.

I always give the same advice. I’ve actually published a guest blog post where I listed 52 sites where you can get free stock photos that are royalty free.

I love using beautiful photos on my blog and it really makes a difference in the look you want to present to your visitors.

Thank you for sharing this list!

Hi Meredith,

It seems like in today’s blogging world you just can’t get away from using amazing-looking photos.

I was actually just talking to a blogging friend the other day and told her that designing amazing pins for Pinterest has been my biggest hurdle.

My images look a lot better today than when I created my first pin. But it’s taken a lot of practice and error to create beautiful images.

No matter what we do, we need beautiful images for our blogs.

Thanks for sharing this list with us now at least I know that I can find some great-looking images for my blog without a lot of effort.

It’s nice having a resource like this at our fingertips so we can find the things we need quickly and easily.

I’ll be sure to pass this list along.

Have a great day 🙂

Susan

Hi Susan,

I’m so glad this list has been a helpful resource for you in creating beautiful pins and finding high quality images for your blog.

I couldn’t agree with you more, making eye-catching and click worthy pins DOES take practice. But like you said, with practice they’ll get better so keep up the good work!

Have a fantastic day and thank you for your comment 🙂
